The Marquis Scholars and Fellows are united by an intellectual curiosity and sense of community that transcend their diverse majors.

Who are the Marquis Scholars & Fellows?

  • The award is named after the Marquis de Lafayette, who left behind the safety of his aristocratic life in France to fight for the cause of freedom in the American colonies. To form the Marquis Scholars/Fellows community, Lafayette seeks students who have demonstrated intellectual curiosity in addition to superior academic achievement. Furthermore, the College looks for students who are creatively engaged in the life of their communities and who, like the College’s namesake, have “made a difference” through significant accomplishments in school and community. No special application is required to be considered for the Marquis Scholarship. Recipients of a Marquis award display the Marquis’ ideals of global citizenship, scholarly pursuits, leadership, and concern for others. The Marquis Fellowship is a full-tuition award and the Marquis Scholarship is a half-tuition award. Once on campus MSF host speakers, film screenings, debates, and other events for the Lafayette community.  They are leaders in and out of the classroom and engaged members of the Lafayette and Easton communities.

MSF Advisors

The current advisors for the Marquis Scholars and Fellows program are Professor Kristen Sanford and Professor Chris Ruebeck. These outstanding faculty provide support and suggestions but allow members of the Marquis community to utilize their own leadership with respect to programming, community building, and event planning.
